Trails Closed for Controlled Burns

Hi All

Have just spoken with Clinton from DEC and there are a few controlled burns on this weekend. There have already been and will be more burning going on around the Kalamunda Circuit and the Dell. So please stay out of this area. Signs will be in place on most of the trails that DEC know about so please obey them. I was out there yesterday and watched a tree fall down so there is a real danger out there. It will probably mean no riding for the next week or two until they declare that it is safe.

There is also controlled burns taking place at Langford Park Jarrahdale. These will start this week and continue for up to six weeks.

The upside to all of this is that once the trails are open they won't be closed again for years!

If you have any questions regarding the trails that are closed feel free to contact me.

NATIONAL Round in WA = Update

Thank you to all the kind people who have volnteered to help with the proposed National round to be held in WA. We have compiled a file of interested people and will be back in touch when we have secured a National Round.

It has been decided to apply for a National Round to be part of the 2011 calendar, as getting it organized this year was simply not enough time.

If you feel you would like to be one of the "major organizers" of this event, please send me your contact details. We need 5 key people to head up and run, XCO (normal Olympic XC Format), DH, 4X and XCC (short course XC)and a general manager to look over all of these classes.

Thanks, tonymtb@bigpond.com

We have the opportunity to host a NATIONAL Round (XCO, XCC, DH, 4X) here in WA in November this year. And, the ball sits firmly in our court as to whether we get it or not.

New JUNIORS Program up and Running!!!!!!!!

Bryce and Nick from Schwheelies are proud to present this brand new concept and have set up a MTB program for Juniors. Schwheelies started out as a school based bicycle education program. since then Bryce has become one of the highest qualified coaches in the State, he currently has a number of State and National level riders under him.

They are now expanding the business to offer this fantastic program to any juniors who want to join.

This is program is long overdue in WA and will give Juniors a head start into fun riding, skills, fitness and racing you want to go further with it.

Have a look at the attached flier and contact Bryce or Nick for further details.

Turner Hill Vandalism

Unfortunately the Gazebo at Turner Hill mountain bike trail has been vandalised beyond repair and has now been removed by DEC. If anyone has seen any suspicious behavior over the past two weeks, can you pass this information on to Clinton Hull at DEC via email. clinton.hull@dec.wa.gov.au.

DEC will be installing bollards and new parking areas to hopefully protect the toilet and surrounding bush from furthur vandalism.
This new work will begin on Wednesday the 30th June and will take approx. 3 days to complete, this involves installing a 3 car bay near the old rotunda site and bollarding off the rest of the area in front and surrounding this. If riding in the area over the course of next week please be mindful of our DEC work crew and park your vehicles in the large event parking area near the pine mulch barrier, this area will also be leveled out to accommodate the ever increasing event parking.

Thanks for your cooperation

PMBC's stand on illegal trail building

The Perth Mountain Bike Club strongly discourage anyone from building illegal trails in the Perth Hills and beautiful bush.

We all know there are some fanstastic, well built and sustainable trails that are well used on a daily basis. However, the vast majority of these trails have been built illegally and there is a genuine chance that some may be shut down in the future.

If you have the energy, enthusiasm, time and skill to build these awesome trails, why not get them approved before they are actually built. This way we can all enjoy them for years to come, and they won't be shut down.

WAMBA are currently putting a document together to explain the process of getting approval before building the trails. I will put the link here as soon as I have it.

In the mean time, you could give John Carney (WAMBA President) a call at Wembly Cycles on 9387 3708 and he will point you in the right direction.
