4X Round #3 - 3 Chillies Farm

Details for the 4X race this Sunday are up under DH Race Announcewments.

Bennett takes out Ultra Mega Epic

Congratulations to club member Tim Bennett who won the Flight Centre Peppers Ultra Epic. This is a 200km mountain bike race held in Queensland over Saturday and Sunday last weekend.

The ride consists of two 100km days. Riding the same course out on Saturday and back on Sunday. At the end of Saturday Tim, riding for the Flight Centre Scott Bikes team, sat second to current World 24hr champion Craig Gordon but was able to take the victory on Sunday when Gordon suffered a mechanical. This allowed Tim to ride on to victory by over 20 minutes.

This is Tim's second Epic victory and shows he is still at the top of the Australian mountain bike scene.

Well done Tim!

WAMBA receives $110,000 in Lotterywest Funding

WAMBA has received $110,000 in the 2007 round of Department of Sport and Recreation/Lotterywest funding to be used over three exciting projects.

The next stage of the Goatfarm Mountain Bike Park has received $75,000. This will be used for signage and the installation of concrete flyovers as well as the design of further trails, rock gardens and a children?s track near the creek.

The long running Kalamunda Circuit upgrade and realignment project has received $15,000. This is an exciting step forward in the planning of this trail. Plans have recently been submitted to the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) and hopefully we will see the building on this project start before the end of the year. This trail is built for all levels of mountain biker and is designed as a recreational trail with future possibility for a race circuit.

Club DH #4 - Dwellingup

Details for the last club DH round at Tom's Crossing are now up under DH Race Announcements

We also need a couple of Volunteers to drive the shuttle busses. They are only 12 seaters, so you don't need a special licence. It would be good to get a couple of drivers locked in before the race, so if there are any parents who can help out please email me at dh@perthmtb.com. We will also be needing a few marshals on the day so anyone who can help please email me.

Thanks
Bryn

Hi-Way Cup Results are available at http://perthmtb.com/node/616
Riders Choice 6hr Results are available at http://perthmtb.com/node/617

As it turned out there was a lot in common between these events:

1. Weather - perfect sunny day for both
2. Huge Prize Pool - $6500 with $3500 in cash from Hi-Way Cycles and over $4000 in cash from Riders Choice and $2000 in SRAM gear
3. Sam Hill! - Sam competed in both events, 1st in downhill as expected, and 9th in Duo Men (but beaten by Johhny Waddell's Duo in 2nd)

Both of these events are run by the two shops with the purpose of not making a profit and putting all left over money into prizes, so they are worth your support next year - the more riders, the more prizes.
